The Cambridge Sail Power Squadron is a unit of United States Power Squadrons (USPS) and a member of District 5 covering the Mid-Atlantic States. Our members are primarily from Dorchester County, the home of the Choptank River, one of the largest rivers in the Chesapeake Bay. Boating Education & classes
We offer many Seminars on Charting and Weather and a Basic Boating Course to the public at several locations around Dorchester County. For Members,
there are advanced classes in Seamanship and Piloting, For information about courses, contact our Educational Officer listed below for additional information.
Vessel Examination
The USPS supports the Coast Guard Recreational Boating Safety Program. Squadron members trained as Vessel examiners provide safety checks for interested boat owners. A vessel that successfully meets the Coast Guard recommended standards is awarded the Coast Guard Sticker for that year. Civic Service
Our Squadron is also interested in civic service. Related to boating we do chart updating and public education. We also do some general civic service such as Safe Boating Week, Flare Demonstrations, and working with the local YMCA on youth programs.
Squadron Activities
As we are all interested in boating, we hold many on the water activities and boating rendezvous. Contact our Administrative Officer listed below. We also have a night at the local Delmarva Shorebirds and a fall family picnic. We publish the 'Choptank Currents', an interesting and informative monthly newsletter. Our District also publishes the Mark 5 newsletter. A boat is not necessary for Membership.
Regular Meeting Schedule
Executive Committee Meetings are scheduled on the fourth Thursday of every month at Cambridge Library at 1930. Membership Meetings with a buffet dinner and guest speakers are also held at various locations on the second Thursday of the month unless otherwise specified: social hour begins at 1800 and dinner at 1900.
